Here are our top tips to make your picnic perfectly healthy:
It only takes a few seconds to make a deliciously fruity drink. Throw a few handfuls of ice into a jug and top up with filtered water and any fruit you fancy. Try mashing up a handful of raspberries or strawberries with a fork, adding a quartered orange or tear up a handful of fresh mint and add to the jug with slices of cucumber and a squeeze of lime. Remember to take ice cubes in a flask so you can chill your drinks as you go.
At home roast a large tray of vegetables such as onions, squash and beetroot, and take a Tupperware full to liven up salads.
Homemade houmus with carrot, pepper and celery crudites are delicious alternatives to crisps.
Take a small jam jar of salad dressing and a big bowl of salad ready to dress. To make a simple vinegraraite pour 6 tbsp of extra virgin olive oil into your jar, add a pinch of salt and freshly ground black pepper and squeeze in the juice of one lemon, put the lid on and shake well. To make a balsamic dressing simply add 2 tbsp of balsamic vinegar to your basic ingredients and give your jar a good shake!
